24-09: Eligible Market Requirements for Market Authorizations

  • Post author:

Liquor Update:

These changes apply to the following licence:

  • Manufacturer (Market authorizations)

What’s changing

Liquor manufacturers that want to sell at an artisan, farmers or annual market must make sure the market is eligible. Previously, markets needed to be composed entirely of vendors who sell artisanal goods of their own making, and or agricultural goods that they produce, grow or raise themselves.

Now, eligible markets will only require more than half of all vendors in the following categories combined, to be present on a typical market day:

  • primary producers (i.e., farmers),
  • processed/prepared food,
  • ready to eat food,
  • artisans selling goods of their own making.

If the licensee already has a market authorization, no action is required to conduct sales and sampling at markets.

It is the licensee’s responsibility to coordinate with the market to ensure that all eligibility criteria are met. The Manufacturer terms and conditions contain the complete list of market eligibility criteria.

If the licensee does not yet have a market authorization and would like to apply for one, they must also have an on-site store endorsement. Licensees can apply through the liquor and cannabis licensing portal. There is no deadline or expiry date.
